3. Sure, I bought a lot, but most of them didn’t come out in or even close. A few I did really enjoy this year were the Mark Sultan “Sultanic Verses” LP, the 2nd Trashies record, Black Lips “Los Valientes Del Mundo Nuevo” the Hipshakes, Red Red Red, “Songs by Solutions”, and the Magnetix full length.

4. "Sultanic Verses" is a great record, reminiscent of vintage Gibson Bros. Mark Sultan's vocals remind me of Don Howland, and his melodies are happy while giving it an edge with a raunchy guitar sound that maintains a garage rock feel throughout/5(2).

5. The Sultanic Verses, his first album as 'Mark Sultan', lets him live up to these heady statements and beyond. Foregoing the one man, live recording style he perfected as 'BBQ' for the most part, Sultan decided to do an album recording many of the instruments himself and inviting friends to fill in the gaps.
